Disaster Relief Update – Sunday June 7, 2009

“…But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Recent deployments have left many Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers and state leadership weary from doing the work of sharing the hope of Christ. As these recent deployments come to an end, we pray for a renewal of strength, physically, mentally and spiritually. Renewal is promised in this verse from Isaiah and it is our prayer that all of these volunteers will find that rest after many days of work.

From all reports, it appears that teams are striving to finish most of the remaining work in Illinois and West Virginia by the end of the week. Jack Shelby, DR Director for the Illinois Baptist State Association, says that church groups will continue to work on the few jobs remaining.

The work during the month of May has been a tremendous example of how Southern Baptists cooperate together to accomplish all that is laid before them. Thanks to all who have assisted in these responses and may all praise go to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the sacrifices of His volunteers. We pray that churches will be strengthened and that lives will be changed as a result of this work.
